The Checklist to Check GST Registration Status in India

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) was introduced in 2017 and is implemented by the Central Government. So, registration and keeping up with the GST registration status is mandatory for businesses exceeding a specific annual turnover threshold. You may register online to enjoy the benefits of the GST regime or choose an offline option.

GST Registration Procedure

The GST portal provides you with an online GST registration procedure. However, ensure you have the required GST registration documents before proceeding.

Step 1:

Visit the GST portal and click ‘Services’ on the navigation bar.

Step 2:

From the dropdown list, select 'Registration' and then, 'New Registration'.

Step 3:

The form contains 2 parts, Part A and Part B. While filling the Part A, you will find the GST numbers registered under the same PAN in India. However, you may proceed with your application. You will receive a Temporary Reference Number (TRN) at the end of the Part A of the form.

Step 4:

The Part B of the form should be filled before the expiry date mentioned there. Otherwise, all your saved details will be purged from the site.

Step 5:

The portal contains 10 tabs where you must fill your own details and your business details. Your form won’t get submitted until you press the 'submit' button after filling in all details.

For an offline procedure:

Step 1:

Visit the GST Seva Kendra and ask for the GST registration form. You may also download it from the portal.

Step 2:

Fill out the form and submit the required documents with the form.

Step 3:

You will get an application tracking number. Using it, you may track your application status on the portal.

Step 4:

GST registration generally gets completed within 7 to 10 working days.

The GST registration procedure is long and you must keep checking your GST registration status. You may consult a reliable consultant for an error-free process.
